Baby Girl
Several years ago we began taking bags of dog food on all of our outreaches. We don’t always see dogs, but have seen as many as ten on an outreach and their owners are always thankful for the food. Two years ago we decided that our furry friends needed their own bag, so we began filling small tote bags with two bottles of water, dogfood, treats, and bowls for water and food. The dog bags have been a great hit and appreciated by owner and pups alike.
The Bible tells us God created animals on the sixth day. Many people believe God created dogs to demonstrate unconditional love.
Dogs are loyal companions, and offer protection, comfort, and love us no matter what.
Our last outreach on January 26th took us to an area underneath the I-45 overpass where we had seen tents the day before. (Note: We generally make an observation run the day before an outreach to have a better look at where our homeless folks are located.)
Our convoy of five vehicles pulled in near an area of several tents. We parked and began helping folks with bags and clothing. A number of folks had dogs and we were able to assist them with dog bags.
.Baby Girl’s Story
At this stop we meet 25 year old Anaja living in a tent with two dogs. Anaja shares with us how someone had dumped this dog two months ago, so she took her in and named her Baby Girl. She has cared for her the best she can, but Baby Girl is now expecting puppies. Delivering puppies and caring for her would be next to impossible.. What to do?
Anaja shared her story of desperation with our team member, Renie. Renie offered to pick Baby Girl up, have her checked out by a vet, and take care of her at home. After the mother gives birth, puppies are weaned and adopted, Baby Girl will be spayed and returned to Anaja.
Many thanks to Renie for taking on this responsibility out of the goodness of her heart.
Tuesday 28th: Renie and I drove to Anaja’s and picked up Baby Girl and took her to Renie’s home. Renie made a vet appointment for Saturday and Baby Girl had a good check-up and due to deliver any day..
Thursday Feb. 6th. 1:54 AM Text from Renie. Mom and puppies make 9. Eventful evening.
